Abstract:
Introduction: Depression is one of the most prevalent Psychiatric disorder in to day’s time.The currently available synthetic drugs used for the treatment of depression have good therapeutic activity but have many adverse effects, also have more rate of remission. Plant derived drugs are considered as safer than synthetic drugs.
Method: The literature survey was carried out from the Google Scholar, PubMed, Medline,Wikipedia,Sciencedirect,Scopus.
Result: In this review we have compiled the information about the plant s reported to possess anti-depressant activity along with the irreported mechanism of action, the model used for evaluating the anti-depressant activity, their active constituents and other properties.
Conclusion: Compilation of herbal drugs with reported anti-depressant activity is done so that these herbal drugs can be effectively used globally or the treatment of depression.
